  7. SQL*Net is Oracle's communication software product for linking both different
  8. machines and distributed databases together.  SQL*Net handles all
  9. communications between ORACLE processes on 286 or 386 Xenix/UNIX systems and
  10. DOS PCs, minicomputers, mainframes or to over 40 different UNIX platforms.
  11. SQL*Net can be used to distribute processing to diskless nodes or other
  12. machines by connecting applications software and databases on one computer
  13. with databases on other computers.  SQL*Net allows location independence so
  14. the user need no know where the data is located.  ORACLE finds the data and
  15. retrieves it transparently, even if the date is spread over several databases
  16. on different machines in different geographic locations.  SQL*Net supports a
  17. variety of the major communication protocols including; TCP/IP, Async. DECnet,
  18. MAP, and LU6.2.
